HELP! Chapter 9 file corrupted any ideas??

If any readers are computer geeks/experts I’d appreciate any help.

Up to yesterday I had over 3500 words written for Chapter nine (about 50% completed) and now I discover the file has been corrupted and I can’t open it. It’s gone.

Has anyone any ideas?

I’ve put dozens of hours into this and now I’m unable to access it.

I’ve had a really shit week a good friend died, I couldn’t attend his funeral as I was admitted to hospital with a serious health issue – which thankfully seems to have been contained and hopefully I’m on the road to recovery. So this finishes off a really crap week.

The response to the last chapter was wonderful (shit I sound like Trump) and I’ve very grateful for all the support which is why I want to get this chapter posted asap.

Now unless I can recover the file I’ll have to start over

As I’ve mentioned several times before writing is difficult for me as I tend to pore over every word, sentence and paragraph, second guessing and critiquing myself all the time. I have a lot of it in my head but getting it down like the original will be difficult not to mention extremely time consuming and obviously will take several weeks to post.

Yes! not a good week but compared to the very ill people I’ve seen in hospital it is absolutely of no consequence. They would love to have my troubles.

So if anyone can help please let me know.

Thanks
Carrie

  1. A little late for this... I always make another file somewhere. Mainly because I have no clue how to fix it, once it is corrupted. Sorry to hear this. I write this type of fiction under another name, and I know how time consuming and frustrating it can be. My sincere sympathies.

  2. Hello Carrie, I gave your question to my son. He is a specialist in computer science, system integration. He has always been able to help me on the ground.
Here is his answer: "It is difficult. There are special software that can save such files, but pay. It also depends on the type of file - whether Word, a picture, Excel etc. "
Yes, if we could be beaten (Enterprise), then I would send him to your home shortly!
I'm sorry I can not help you further.
Greetings from Germany and good improvement

    Word files repair and restore
    Word files repair
If Microsoft "Word" can not open your document, the file is usually corrupted. However, you can restore the text at any time. Formatting and other elements like images are unfortunately lost.
    1. Start the Microsoft Word Word Editor.
    2. In the upper-left corner of the menu bar, click File, then click Open.
    3. Select the corrupted Word file that you want to repair.
    4. In the "File type" field, set the converter to "Restore text from any file". Now open your Word document so that Word extracts the text from the corrupted file.
    5. Now you have access to your lost texts. If this method does not work, you can often save the deleted files with a recovery program such as "Recuva".

Das Programm “Recuva” ist hier in Deutschland kostenlos:

    Hinweis
Sollten Sie CCleaner noch nicht installiert haben, empfehlen wir Ihnen die Pro-Version. Diese wird bei der Installation von Recuva ebenfalls angeboten. Wählen Sie das Angebot ab, wenn Sie dies nicht wünschen.

The "Recuva" program is free in Germany:

    Note
If you do not already have CCleaner installed, we recommend the Pro version. This is also offered during the installation of Recuva. Select the offer, if you do not want it.

Carrie ich wünsche Dir viel Erfolg.
    Liebe Grüße aus Deutschland

  4. Hello Carrie,
I have sent you the message also in German. I know your neighbor understands the German language.
Hopefully you can recover your corrupted file. I wish you luck.

  5. Thanks Johan for your comment I’ve done that but it seems the issue occurred at the time I saved them- so both were corrupted.

Thanks also to Our German Friend for your efforts with your son, I really appreciate it. There seems to be an issue with my laptop and/or external hard drive I will ask about using the restore point but I doubt if it will work.

Another reader contacted me with an offer of help but unfortunately it could not be done, my thanks to him also.

I am very grateful for all your efforts.

So back to the keyboard and let’s see how good the external hard drive in my head works. I’ve started it on Sunday and have written about 600 words, I expected the original to be approx 7k words but I may reduce to about 3k it in order to post something as readers have been very supportive.

    Take care.

    Carrie

  6. Dear Carrie, condolences on losing your friend and being unable to say goodbye properly. Combined with your health issue it puts the loss of data, annoying though it is,into perspective. The first part of chapter nine will be all the better for it I have no doubt. If not it will be another inch on your corset, an extra petticoat and a long firm spanking over the knee of your fantasy Matron. Love Geraldine x

  7. Dear Gearldine

Thank you for your good wishes I greatly appreciate you taking the time to do so. My health is improving by the day and I have some time off so I have a chance to write more than usual.

I was really annoyed about the corrupted file and readers will experience a delay in getting the next chapter so as a stop gap I decided to do an illustration and I’m going to accompany it with a few hundred words. It’s associated with AVVE but it really is a purely as a stand- alone piece with no connection to the story. Hopefully I’ll have the text done in a day or two.

    Take care

    Carrie
